Who pays and how much. Homeowners pay nothing on any of these sites. Trades pay in one of three ways: a monthly membership (Checkatrade, TrustATrader, Which?), a fee per lead or shortlist (MyBuilder, and Checkatrade Growth in practice), or credits bought in packs (Bark, MyJobQuote). YourHouseFix is a small membership plus a fee only on the jobs you accept.
Leads shared with. The more firms a job goes to, the more you are quoting against, and the more often you pay for a job someone else wins. A directory does not share leads because it does not send any; the homeowner has to find you.
Contract. A 12 month term means a bad quarter still costs a year. The complaints that recur most in public reviews of the big platforms are the lock in and being billed while suspended, which is why our trade charter rules both out in writing.
Common questions
Which tradesperson platform is cheapest for a trade?
It depends how you count. Checkatrade starts at £30 a month with no leads, or from £59 a month on a 12 month contract with real bills of £80 to £500 reported. MyBuilder has no monthly fee but charges £2 to £35 per shortlist. Bark and MyJobQuote sell credits that expire. YourHouseFix is £10 a month plus £10 per lead you accept, with no contract and nothing that expires. Prices checked 26 September 2026.
Which platforms share a lead with other trades?
Most job marketplaces do. Checkatrade sends a job to three or four other members, Bark to up to five, MyJobQuote and the old Rated People to up to three. MyBuilder shows a shortlist of several. YourHouseFix gives you first look and never sends a job to more than three trades.
Which platforms have a contract?
Checkatrade and TrustATrader are 12 months. Which? Trusted Traders is rolling with three months' notice. MyBuilder, Bark and MyJobQuote have no contract. YourHouseFix has no contract and you can cancel in two taps.
What happened to Rated People?
Rated People Limited entered creditors' voluntary liquidation on 16 September 2026 and closed all memberships the same day. Checkatrade bought the brand and website on 17 September. Accounts, subscriptions and reviews were not transferred. See our page on what to do if you were a member.
Is YourHouseFix free for homeowners?
Yes. Posting a job, hearing back and choosing a tradesperson costs nothing, and no payment is taken on this site. You pay the tradesperson directly for the work.
