Frequently asked questions

Do I need a licence for scaffolding on the pavement?

If any part of the scaffold sits on a public pavement or road, a scaffold licence from the council is needed. The scaffolding company usually applies for it, so check it is included in the quote and in their name.

How often should scaffolding be inspected?

Scaffolding must be inspected by a competent person after it is put up, at least every seven days while it is in use, and after anything that could affect it, such as high winds. Ask for the inspection record if your builder or roofer is relying on it.

Who arranges the scaffold, me or my builder?

Either can. If your roofer or builder arranges it, the cost is usually built into their price. If you hire it yourself, agree dates with the trades using it so you do not pay for weeks it stands idle.

How do I get a quote from scaffolders in your area?

Pick a listing on this page and send a quote request saying what needs doing and when suits you. The business comes back to you with a price and a time. It is free to ask, and no payment is taken online.

Are the scaffolders on this page vetted?

Not yet. Listings marked Claimed have been claimed by the business and are kept up to date by them; the rest come from public records such as Companies House and Google and are marked as not yet claimed. Every listing shows its real Google rating and review count where one exists. We do not check registers or insurance yet, so ask for a Gas Safe or NICEIC/NAPIT number and check it yourself.

What should I check before I hire a scaffolder?

Ask for a written quote and what it includes, who will do the work, whether they are insured, and any registration the trade needs, such as Gas Safe for gas work or a Part P scheme for electrics. Never pay the full amount up front.
