What a plasterer does
Plasterers skim over old walls and ceilings, patch damage, board new stud walls, put up coving and render the outside of a house. A well skimmed wall looks flat and smooth once painted and a poor one shows every ridge, so in Kitts Green, Birmingham ask to see photos of finished work and be clear about whether you want a skim or a full replaster.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between skimming and replastering?
Skimming is a thin finishing coat over an existing sound surface or new plasterboard. Replastering takes the old plaster back to the brick and builds up new base and finish coats. Replastering costs more and is needed when the old plaster is blown, damp or crumbling.
How long before I can paint new plaster?
It needs to dry out fully, which takes days to a few weeks depending on thickness and ventilation, and it changes from dark pink to a pale, even colour when ready. The first coat should be a mist coat of watered down emulsion.
Can plaster go over artex or a textured ceiling?
Often yes, once the surface is sealed, but textured coatings in older homes can contain asbestos and must be tested before anyone sands or scrapes them. A plasterer will usually skim over rather than remove.
How do I get a quote from plasterers in Kitts Green, Birmingham?
Pick a listing on this page and send a quote request saying what needs doing and when suits you. The business comes back to you with a price and a time. It is free to ask, and no payment is taken online.
Are the plasterers on this page vetted?
Not yet. Listings marked Claimed have been claimed by the business and are kept up to date by them; the rest come from public records such as Companies House and Google and are marked as not yet claimed. Every listing shows its real Google rating and review count where one exists. We do not check registers or insurance yet, so ask for a Gas Safe or NICEIC/NAPIT number and check it yourself.
What should I check before I hire a plasterer?
Ask for a written quote and what it includes, who will do the work, whether they are insured, and any registration the trade needs, such as Gas Safe for gas work or a Part P scheme for electrics. Never pay the full amount up front.
Prices and availability are confirmed by each business. No payment is taken online, you pay the tradesperson directly.
