Painters and decorators in West Midlands at a glance
The 40 painters and decorators shown in West Midlands are based across 25 postcode districts (DY2, B66, B68, B16, B15, B17, B5, B4 and more), so there is usually one close by whichever side of West Midlands you are on.
39 of them carry Google reviews, 1,059 between them, averaging 4.8 out of 5. Worth reading before you pick on price alone, because the cheapest quote is a false economy if the work needs doing twice.
The highest rated is EJ Pavers at 5.0 from 62 reviews.
Of the 39 where we hold working hours, 28 work on a Saturday and 15 on a Sunday. Weekend slots go first, so asking a few days ahead usually gets you a better choice than ringing round on the day.
What a painter and decorator does
Painters and decorators handle interior and exterior painting, wallpapering, filling and preparing walls, staining woodwork and repainting the outside of a house. Preparation is most of the job, so when comparing quotes in West Midlands ask what is included: filling, sanding, sealing, the number of coats and whether the paint is supplied.

Frequently asked questions
How many coats should I expect?
Two top coats on walls is the norm, with a mist coat on fresh plaster and a primer or undercoat on bare wood. A quote that is much cheaper than the others often means one coat.
Should I supply the paint?
Either is fine. If the decorator supplies it they usually get a trade price and stand behind the finish. If you supply it, buy the brand and finish they ask for, since cheap paint takes more coats.
What time of year is best for exterior painting?
Dry, mild weather. Most decorators avoid exterior work in the wettest and coldest months because paint needs to dry properly. Booking ahead for spring or late summer is normal.
How do I get a quote from painters and decorators in West Midlands?
Pick a listing on this page and send a quote request saying what needs doing and when suits you. The business comes back to you with a price and a time. It is free to ask, and no payment is taken online.
Are the painters and decorators on this page vetted?
Not yet. Listings marked Claimed have been claimed by the business and are kept up to date by them; the rest come from public records such as Companies House and Google and are marked as not yet claimed. Every listing shows its real Google rating and review count where one exists. We do not check registers or insurance yet, so ask for a Gas Safe or NICEIC/NAPIT number and check it yourself.
What should I check before I hire a painter and decorator?
Ask for a written quote and what it includes, who will do the work, whether they are insured, and any registration the trade needs, such as Gas Safe for gas work or a Part P scheme for electrics. Never pay the full amount up front.
Prices and availability are confirmed by each business. No payment is taken online, you pay the tradesperson directly.
