What a flooring fitter does
Flooring fitters lay laminate, engineered and solid wood, luxury vinyl tile, sheet vinyl and carpet, and level or board the subfloor first. In Edinburgh most flooring is priced by the square metre plus fitting, so measure the room, note where the doors are, and ask whether skirting, underlay and waste removal are included.

Frequently asked questions
Laminate, engineered wood or vinyl: which suits my room?
Laminate is hard wearing and cheap but dislikes water. Engineered wood looks and feels like solid wood and copes with underfloor heating. Luxury vinyl tile and sheet vinyl are the choice for kitchens and bathrooms because they shrug off water.
Does the old floor have to come up?
Usually yes for a good result, and always if it is loose or damp. Some vinyl and laminate can go over an existing hard floor if it is flat and stable. The fitter will check the subfloor and tell you.
Can flooring go over underfloor heating?
Engineered wood, laminate, tile and vinyl designed for it can, with the right underlay and a limit on floor temperature. Solid wood and thick carpet generally cannot. Check the manufacturer guidance and tell the fitter you have heating.
How do I get a quote from flooring fitters in Edinburgh?
Pick a listing on this page and send a quote request saying what needs doing and when suits you. The business comes back to you with a price and a time. It is free to ask, and no payment is taken online.
Are the flooring fitters on this page vetted?
Not yet. Listings marked Claimed have been claimed by the business and are kept up to date by them; the rest come from public records such as Companies House and Google and are marked as not yet claimed. Every listing shows its real Google rating and review count where one exists. We do not check registers or insurance yet, so ask for a Gas Safe or NICEIC/NAPIT number and check it yourself.
What should I check before I hire a flooring fitter?
Ask for a written quote and what it includes, who will do the work, whether they are insured, and any registration the trade needs, such as Gas Safe for gas work or a Part P scheme for electrics. Never pay the full amount up front.
Prices and availability are confirmed by each business. No payment is taken online, you pay the tradesperson directly.
